Concepts

  1. In this concept he climbs a mountain to reach the tree that sticks out and from the wind it moves these “clothy” things sticking out. Technically this would have been difficult, also visually I wasn’t able to draw what i wanted to realise.

2. This concept was inspired by bonsai tree’s and various painting methods produced in Asia. The tree is firm on the ground while the colourful circles are floating softly on top. The one on the right plays with the eye as from one angle the circles are more spread out, however, looking at it from the front it changes.

3.  this concept was strongly inspired by expressionism as well as surrealism. I liked the controversy and twist of eagon schiele’s art paintings, but also tried to incorporate an elegance of Salvador dali.  The version in the sketchbook is altered with a stronger red. Red is a symbol for many things, depending on the culture. All the bits that are not attached would be floating slightly, as he walks on them they would go lower. however the main structure is floating as well. The main concept as a whole behind this, was no matter where he would be every set created would be, floating. This would create an organizational path between every sets that could have had implemented the passage of the character’s life in a more abstract manner, or perhaps his previous attempts at reaching the moon.

4. This is basic spheres in a low-poly art-style fashion playing strongly with the idea of depth and scale, giving a slight surreal feel. Due to the set being created with spheres, ligthing would be an interesting feature to experiment with, if it would have been converted in maya.

5. In this last one, I tried to keep it simple. I was inspired by the yin yang. The idea that light would not exist if it were not for the darkness. The white dot on the yin yang would be the moon’s reflection on the set. He would pass from the light side. He has been in the light for a whole, however he understood it isn’t the most beautiful. More doesn’t mean better. When he crosses to the dark side he realises the reflection of the moon (the white spot on the dark side) and finds his final place to achieve… the moon… (prequel??)
